Breaches in Aviation Security
 

The breaches in aviation secuity leading up to and including the attacks of September 11th, 2001 proved the need for increased security checks and on flight security. The Arming Pilots Against Terrorism Act of 2002 was passed to arm piltos while they are in the cockpit to prevent a hijacking of the plane.

Politics
 

Politics play an imprtant role in how Americans view gun rights based on arming pilots. It can affect what bills are passed and funding for security programs that affect the American people.

Safety and Training Implications
 
In 2002 a bill called the Arming Pilots Against Terrorism Act was passed that laid out the basics for the program and gave authority to the Transportation and Security Administration (107th Congress).
